breaking branch, shattered heart
Falling from the tree, I grasp
holding onto the hope you’ll come back
told myself I wouldn’t be afraid
but here I am shivering in the dark
the people who raised me, my own
took a sharp turn in your direction
waiting by the door, bags packed
but you never showed
dawn kissed the night sky as I waited
grasping for a tree branch, they fell with me
the door remained closed
the morning sky, a glimpse of the what if
branches to my heart, I’m afraid
I felt the branch break, into my heart it went
your eyes never seeing the light
the shining sun too bright now
falling, I’m afraid
your cold hand twisting from the light
my heart breaking, branches falling
on my knees begging for you back
I am afraid
I am afraid
I am afraid
