for the great big love affair

I fear for the day it comes to the end

the lights sparkling in the moon light

I’ve always imagined who you’d be

where you grew up, the foods you ate

I would wonder in the dark

ever since the day I saw love

I knew I needed it

the smile that grows on people’s faces

as they look into the eyes of another

hands finding comfort

as feet pass by on the sidewalks

I found comfort in the movies

comfort in words expressing love

I yearn for the day I get to look into another

their soul bleeding with mine

a great big love affair

of dancing on the sand as the waves crash

racing through the crunching leaves

snow raining down

as our footprints leave marks on the land

two sets of prints walking side by side

you’ll say “I love you”

and my heart is in your hands

but I’ll keep it for now

because the day it becomes yours

I’ll fear for the end that always comes

the day you give my heart back to me

and within it plays the passing seasons

of two hearts that became one

of a soul that found a crack in another

and a home within

it two pairs of eyes looking into each other

as if they could see everything they were

and still could love them

the lights have dimmed

watching the seasons of love play out

to dreaming the great big love affair

in the moonlight
